The Ship

B-24H 41-29456 flew as the 328th Bomb Squadron's M ship. On 26 February 1945 she was lost on the mission to Berlin with 2nd Lt. John R. Cadle's crew, on their second combat mission.

Flak holed the No. 3 engine and then No. 4, and Cadle feathered both. Her No. 1 and No. 2 engines had been replaced the day before. She fell behind the group, under a solid overcast with tops at 14,000 to 15,000 feet. Crews last saw her at 13:20 near 53°00'N, 11°00'E.

Unable to reach England, Cadle turned east toward the Russian lines. The crew bailed out about five miles past the Oder, and all ten men survived. Missing Air Crew Report 12793 lists them missing; they later returned to duty.
