Assigned to 93rd Bomb Group with the original cadre at Barksdale Field, LA. Flew 15 combat missions and was credited with shooting down two FW-190 fighters. Was shot down over St. Nazaire, France (German Submarine Pens); the pilot managed a controlled crash-landing in southern England.

Born Nov. 26, 1920 in San Antonio, TX. Joined USAAC Nov. 28, 1941 as aviation cadet (communications); assigned to newly formed 93rd Bomb Group at Barksdale Field, LA. OTU training in Florida; sent overseas to England as commissioned officer.
After 15 combat missions, was involved in a controlled crash-landing in southern England (shot down over St. Nazaire). Married Elsie Neal (English); celebrated 50th wedding anniversary July 1993. Received BS degree from University of Maryland. Served 15 years with Air Force Office of Special Investigations; retired 1963 as lieutenant colonel. Then with Defense Intelligence Agency, Research and Development. Later appointed by U.S. Department of State as director of Technical Security for all Embassies worldwide — instrumental in detecting and neutralizing Soviet and Eastern Bloc technical intelligence efforts against U.S. Embassies. Served 13 years in Foreign Service; retired 1976 as FSRU-2. Numerous decorations: Air Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, EAME with four clusters, Army of Occupation (Germany), WWII Victory Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and others.
