Assigned to 93rd Bomb Group, 330th Sqdn. at Hardwick, England. Flew 32 missions including the Bay of Biscay, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Sicily, and the low-level Ploesti raid. Memorable experience: spent half a day with Queen Elizabeth and two princesses as a speaker in Sandringham, England, Jan. 19, 1944. Flew the Boomerang B-24 to the USA to tour ball bearing plants in New England.

Born Nov. 8, 1917 in Benjamin, UT. Enlisted Sept. 27, 1941. Flying Cadet training at Ontario, CA; commissioned with wings April 24, 1942 at Victorville AAFB, CA as four-engine B-24 pilot. Stationed at Barksdale Field, LA; Manchester, NH; Hardwick and Hethel, England; Benghazi, Libya; Tunis.
Discharged Oct. 26, 1946 at Marysville, CA. Served five years active duty and 25 years Air Force Reserve. Received Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, Presidential Unit Citation. Graduated University of Utah: BA in speech (1947), JD in law (1949). Did not practice law; formed Walt Stewart Construction. Taught LDS Seminary for 17 years. Retired 1983 to the 40-acre farm where he was born. Married Ruth Francis Dec. 14, 1944, Salt Lake Temple; five children (Walt Jr., Scott, Sally, Alexandra, Sam), 20 grandchildren.
