The man.
Joined 93rd Bomb Group (B-24) at Barksdale Field, LA in April 1942. First British station was RAF Alconbury; later moved to RAF Hardwick. Spent several months on special assignment when the 329th Bomb Sqdn. was sent to RAF Bungay. Served in NCO public relations duties and as scheduling and equipment manager for the 15-piece base dance band.

Born Oct. 5, 1917 in Oak Park, IL. Elementary and high school in the Quad-Cities. Studied journalism at Bradley University. Entered USAAC in February 1942; basic at Sheppard Field, TX. Joined 93rd Bomb Group at Barksdale Field, LA in April 1942. Married Rene Marre during the 93rd's three-month final training at Fort Myers, FL.
Returned to U.S. with the 93rd; assigned to PR office at Sioux City Air Base; discharged Labor Day 1945. Completed 29 years as an Air Force civilian in technical writing and editing (Joint Atomic Weapons Publications Board, Joint Task Force Two, Iranian Gendarmerie Communications, Human Resources Laboratory); retired March 1978 at Brooks AFB, TX. Three daughters, nine grandchildren.
