The man.
§ Biography
2nd Lt. Rollo F. Rudgers (listed on the MACR as "Budgers" due to a clerical error) served as bombardier aboard B-24D 41-23111. He completed a casualty questionnaire describing the events of 9 October 1943.
Rudgers reported that the navigator, Lt. Shafer (actually Crater by the MACR crew list), left the nose compartment at approximately 1400 hours, went up to the flight deck, and then opened the bomb bay doors and jumped. The bombardier was on the flight deck when the aircraft landed in Sweden. He was interned and subsequently returned to duty.
