The man.
Airplane and engine mechanic on B-24 heavy bombers, 93rd Bomb Group, 329th Bomb Sqdn. Stationed at Hardwick Air Base, England for two years and nine months. Group participated in Normandy, Naples-Foggia, Egypt-Libya, Tunisia-Sicily, Air Offensive Europe, Central Europe, Northern France, Rhineland, and Ardennes campaigns. Memorable experience: the low-level bombing of the Ploesti oil fields in Romania — 175 B-24s took part with approximately 100 returning to friendly bases, many heavily damaged. Group received Distinguished Unit Badge, EAME Service Medal, two Silver Stars, and one Bronze Star.

Born in White Plains, GA in 1919. Served in USAAF 1942-1945. Stationed at Barksdale Field, LA and Combat Training Field, Ft. Myers, FL before foreign service.
After foreign service: Sioux Falls, SD and Albuquerque, NM. Married Doris Taylor in Atlanta, GA on June 4, 1946; three daughters, five grandchildren. Retired June 1, 1983 after 42 years with Georgia Power Co. Lives on a private lake near Athens, GA (formerly part of the family farm).
