Richard R. Murray.

Richard R. Murray served as tail gunner on the 1 August 1943 Ploesti mission with the 93rd Bomb Group, 330th Bomb Squadron.

Murray was in the rear of the aircraft at the time of the crash and was not seen alive afterward. Co-pilot Bassett's questionnaire notation indicates Murray was 'behind dead' and 'was in rear of plane at time of crash,' and listed him among those believed killed. Lt. Beaumont's separate report likewise placed Murray among those believed dead, noting he was in the rear of the plane when it came down.

Romanian witnesses reported to the survivors that the remaining crew members were dead, with some bodies carbonized. Murray was reported killed in action.
