§ Biography
On March 18, 1943, a B-24 called Hot Freight flew out on a mission to the Vegesack shipbuilding works in Germany. Flying in the diamond position of the lead element was a man from Jefferson County, Alabama. The records list him as Bolle, though some accounts carried the name Bell.
The mission drew fighter attacks. ME-110s came at them from the front while anti-aircraft fire rose from below. The plane was hit hard and went down west of Seefield, Germany.
He was killed in the crash.
