Raymond A. Slomowicz.

T/Sgt. Raymond A. Slomowicz (38237509) served as top turret gunner and engineer on a B-24 of the 93rd Bomb Group, 328th Bomb Squadron. He was born 5 January 1921, worked as a machinist in civilian life, and spoke Polish and some French. He had completed 8 missions prior to the flight on 30 January 1944, when the aircraft crash-landed near Amersfoort, Holland.

After the crash, Slomowicz and Sgt. Simmons went south together and were taken in by a Dutch underground organization. They were moved to Roermond, where Slomowicz met Sgt. Wilbur Haugan. Around 22:00 on 19 April, they were driven by car to within one kilometer of the Dutch-Belgian border and walked across south of Horn, guided by a Frenchman. Lt. John Lyons joined the group at this point. The group traveled on to Maaseik, then by train to Liege, where they remained until 10 May. There they met Talbot and Elsberry before moving to Herstal. By 4 July the group had reunited at Beffe, Belgium.

Slomowicz's subsequent evasion route follows the same account as that of Elsberry (E&E Report No. 8/260). He was interrogated by IS9(WEA) on 1 September 1944 at Epernay, France, where he also signed a security certificate. He departed Paris by air on 3 September 1944, returning to the United Kingdom. His evasion was rated grade 5 by the interviewing officer, 2nd Lt. Richard H. Dana.
