The man.
Stationed at Alconbury Hill, England with 93rd Bomb Group (B-24). Moved to Hardwick and flew two missions over Germany. Transferred to 389th Bomb Group, 566th Sqdn. at Hethel; flew two missions from Benghazi, Libya. Shot down over Bremen on his ninth mission (Dec. 20, 1943); parachuted from his plane and was captured immediately. Spent 16 months as prisoner of war at Stalag 17B, Krems, Austria.

Born April 15, 1919 in Nekoosa, WI. Enlisted in USAAC July 28, 1941. Attended Army Air Forces Technical School at Scott Field, IL; graduated as radio operator mechanic in 1942. Departed New York Harbor Aug. 31, 1942 on the Queen Elizabeth.
Returned to States June 14, 1945. Discharged Oct. 8, 1945 at Cochran Field, Macon, GA as technical sergeant. Received American Defense Service Medal, EAME Campaign Medal, Air Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation. Returned to Wisconsin Rapids; married Vivian Sullivan May 25, 1946. Five children, nine grandchildren.
