The man.
Trained as aircraft gunner; assigned to 93rd Bomb Group at Hardwick. First mission March 2, 1944. On March 3, 1944 was involved in a crash on takeoff that killed three crew members; recuperated from injuries and returned to combat as a replacement gunner. Completed 30 missions on Sept. 26, 1944, then worked in supply on base.

Born Dec. 23, 1920 in Oil City, PA. Enlisted in USAAC on Oct. 12, 1942 in Akron, OH. Trained as an aircraft gunner.
After finishing 30 missions (Sept. 26, 1944), stayed on base working in supply. Returned to States on the Queen Mary, arriving March 11, 1945. Discharged Sept. 7, 1945. Returned to Akron and worked in the rubber industries. Married Violet Hutchinson; two children, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
