T/Sgt Lowell L. Arnold (serial number 35498682) served as engineer and top turret gunner on B-24J 42-100294 on the 24 June 1944 mission to Dreux Airdrome, France.
When the plane was struck by a direct flak hit in the nose at 21,000 feet and exploded over the Treon area south of Dreux, Arnold was seen in the aircraft and did not appear to bail out. Capt. Schilling reported that Arnold was observed in the plane and was killed in or with the aircraft. He was reported as either unconscious or dead at the time of the explosion, and was reported buried by French civilians approximately 20 kilometers south of Dreux.
Arnold was presumed killed in action as a result of the 24 June 1944 mission. His status was listed as MIA in E and E Report No. 1029.
