§ Biography
1st Lt. Joseph A. Buland Jr. piloted B-24J 42-73495 on the 8 April 1944 mission to Brunswick, Germany. His aircraft was shot down over the Island of Schokland in the Ijsselmeer, and he was taken prisoner of war.
German capture records (KU 1380) confirm Buland was captured and transferred to Dulag Luft on 12 April 1944, four days after the shoot-down. His next of kin was his mother, Mrs. Joe A. Buland Sr., of 4118 South Owasso, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
