The man.
In June 1943 the 4th AS Sqdn. was sent to Gander, Newfoundland, then St. Eval, Cornwall, UK for operations with RAF Coastal Command patrolling the Bay of Biscay. Transferred to 93rd Bomb Group (H), 2nd Air Div., 8th Air Force at Hardwick, assigned to Group HQ. Flew as deputy command pilot to complete combat tour (through August 1944), then joined the 2nd Air Division Scouting Force. Completed second tour just before V-E Day in May 1945.

Born Nov. 17, 1918 in Washington, DC. Joined the USAAF in November 1940, assigned to Ft. Devens, MA (HQ Co., MP Platoon). Joined Flying Cadets Southeast Training Center in April 1941 (Class of 41-I). Commissioned as second lieutenant, December 1941, Turner Field, GA. Assigned to 45th Bomb Group (L) at Grenier Field, NH, flying Douglas A-20s. Conducted AS Operations (1942-1943) on Atlantic Seaboard from Dover, DE and Jacksonville, FL. B-24 training at Langley Field, VA; assigned to 4th USAF AS Sqdn. at Mitchell Field, NY.
Returned to the States; served in various duties with Air Transport Command until going inactive May 1946 with final status major, USAF Reserve (Ret.). Joined Pan American Airlines as second officer/navigator in August 1946; retired in 1978 as B-747 captain. Now flies only sailplanes. Married Rosemary Hadden from Pasadena, CA on May 12, 1951; two daughters, Yvonne and Ruth. Received Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart, North Atlantic and European Campaigns Stars.
