The man.
Harvey P. Barnard Jr. entered the USAAC in August 1939 and later transferred to the USAF. He commanded the 93rd Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, England in 1944, leading the 2nd Division on six missions that year: Hamburg, Burnburg, Ludwigshaven, Kassel, Zellerfeld, and Minden.
He was awarded the Croix de Guerre with Palme, the Air Medal with Bronze Star, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired in June 1946 with the rank of colonel.

Harvey P. Barnard Jr. was born September 19, 1913 in Harrisburg, PA. He entered West Point as a cadet in 1933 and graduated as a second lieutenant in 1938. He entered the USAAC in August 1939.
Barnard retired in June 1946 with the rank of colonel due to physical disability with tuberculous retirement. After leaving the Air Force, he spent 35 years in the airline business, serving the last 10 years as president of Florida Airlines. He retired in 1980 and thereafter enjoyed golf, community service, and church work. He married Frances C. Chase on October 18, 1938, and had four children, 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
