Assigned to 93rd Bomb Group, 328th Sqdn. as radio operator and gunner on Crew #8. Stationed at Alconbury, England; Oran, Tunisia; Gambut, Libya; Hardwick, England. Flew 26+ missions on Ball of Fire Jr. (Joe Tate's ship). Worst battle: first Vegesack mission. Shot down April 16, 1943 over Brest; captured and held as prisoner of war for over two years at Stalag 17B.

Born Sept. 22, 1919 in Savannah, NY. Entered military December 1941; assigned to 93rd Bomb Group, 328th Sqdn. as radio operator and gunner on Crew #8. Basic training at Keesler Field; Barksdale Field; Ft. Myers, FL (anti-submarine patrol). Group flew non-stop Gander to Prestwick, September 1942.
POW for two years plus before discharge. Discharged October 1945 with rank of tech sergeant. Received Presidential Unit Citation, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart, POW Medal, Good Conduct Medal, ETO with four Battle Stars, American Theater with one Battle Star, WWII Victory Medal. Married to Erma J.; retired from a lumber company.
