Harold J. Killian.

1st Lt. Harold J. Killian was the pilot of the aircraft on the January 30, 1944 mission to Brunswick, Germany. He did not bail out, instead piloting the aircraft down for a successful crash landing approximately 25 miles north of Amsterdam, Holland.

After the crash landing the crew split up to evade the enemy. Killian was last seen at the crash site by at least one crew member. He was seen again in a home in Holland in March 1944. He subsequently evaded through Holland and eventually reached Switzerland, where he was interned.

Killian eventually departed Switzerland and returned to the United States around October or November 1944 in good condition. Crew members confirmed correspondence with him after the war; as of 1946 he was reported to be flying at Homestead Field in Florida. His wife received two letters and a cable from him while he was interned.
