§ Biography

Assigned to 329th Bomb Sqdn., 93rd Bomb Group as armorer gunner at Hardwick, England. Flew six missions before age 19. Notable mission: low-level resupply drop over Arnhem for the 82nd and 101st Airborne on Sept. 18, 1944. Completed 30 missions as lead crew; received three commendations from Gen. Timberlake.

Before the War

Born Aug. 19, 1925 in Healdon, OK. Joined USAAC Sept. 23, 1943. Training at Amarillo, TX; Harlingen, TX; Lincoln, NE; Casper, WY; Topeka, KS.

After the War

Discharged Oct. 25, 1945 as staff sergeant. Received Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, ETO Medal with four Battle Stars, American Theater Ribbon, and WWII Victory Medal. Recalled March 1951 for Korean Conflict; discharged November 1951. Married 44 years to Mary B. Wood; three children, seven grandchildren. Retired after 30 years with the postal service.
