Frederick S. Howering.

1st Lt. Frederick S. Howering flew as co-pilot aboard the lead B-24L 44-49573, 329th Bomb Squadron, on 23 March 1945. He survived the crash and was taken prisoner by German forces.

While a prisoner, Howering confirmed to 2nd Lt. Diez the deaths of Lts. Krall and Farwell, having seen their bodies. He and Diez were ordered by captors to dig the grave of Sgt. Wils. Howering returned to Allied control on 12 April 1945.
