The man.
Part of the original 93rd Bomb Group; one of the first to fly overseas Sept. 7-9, 1942. First mission Oct. 9, 1942 from Alconbury, England. Deployed Dec. 7, 1942 to Tafaroui, North Africa (a 10-day trip that lasted three months). Flew missions from Libya including LG-109. Returned to Hardwick Feb. 25, 1943. Flew mission to Vegesack, Germany (March 18, 1943) under fighter attack for over an hour. Returned to North Africa June 25, 1943; flew missions including Rome marshalling yards (July 19, 1943) and the Ploesti mission (Aug. 1, 1943). Completed 36 missions total.

Born June 9, 1920 in Lafayette, NJ. Entered service Feb. 14, 1942. Basic training at Keesler Field, MS. Assigned to new 93rd Bomb Group at Barksdale Field, LA; attended flight engineer course. Crew formed when group moved to Fort Myers, FL; flew submarine patrol over Gulf of Mexico during training. Group moved to Grenier Field, NH and picked up new B-24Ds.
Discharged on points July 1, 1945. Awarded two Distinguished Flying Cross Medals, six Air Medals, Purple Heart, and Good Conduct Medal. Married Dorothy on July 4, 1944; one son, two grandchildren. Retired July 25, 1975 after 30 years of government service with the Department of Defense; chief of police.
