Eugene J. Stepko.

2nd Lieutenant Eugene Joseph Stepko was born 4 April 1920 in Glassport, Pennsylvania, where he lived at 114 Monongahela Avenue. Prior to his military service he worked as a metal-worker.

Stepko flew with the 93rd Bomb Group. On 12 April 1944 his aircraft was lost, and he evaded capture for more than two weeks before being taken on 28 April 1944 at 06:00 in Liege. German records note he was caught alongside resistance contacts, suggesting he had made contact with local underground networks during his evasion.

He was processed by Field-Police Squad a (mot) 837 and held at Military Prison Liege (internment book number 6254). Classified as Grade A internment with mail and parcel prohibitions, he was kept separate from other captured personnel and held under the OFK Liege field court until 1 August 1944.

He was transferred to the prisoner concentration point on 2 August 1944. In his capture statement Stepko identified himself as a crew member of the same aircraft as 2nd Lt. T.W. Tompkins and refused to provide further information to his interrogators.
