1st Lt. Enoch M. Porter Jr. served as pilot of B-24D 42-40612 on the 1 August 1943 mission to Ploesti. He was reported killed in action following the loss of the aircraft to enemy anti-aircraft fire.
According to Warner's E&E questionnaire, Porter burned in the plane when it crashed. Five crew members in total were reported found in the wreckage, and Porter was among those who did not bail out before the aircraft crashed and burned southeast of Ploesti.
A certificate dated 10 July 1944 signed by Major Henri Z. Lake, Intelligence Officer of the 93rd Bombardment Group, confirmed that on 1 August 1943 aircraft No. 612-K with 1st Lt. Enoch M. Porter Jr. as pilot was missing over target. His next of kin was listed as Mrs. Margaret A. Porter (wife), 625 3rd Avenue North, Great Falls, Montana.
