The man.
Served as engineer/top turret gunner with 329th Sqdn., 93rd Bomb Group. Flew missions from England and was sent to Africa, flew over Sicily, Italy (including Rome train station), and Ploesti, Romania. The Ploesti mission damaged their B-24 and required a new aircraft and crew. Crew met King George VI who inspected their plane. Flew 27 missions.

Born Sept. 13, 1920 in Rosedale, KS. Enlisted Oct. 20, 1941. Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis; Mechanic School at Keesler Field, Biloxi, MS; B-24D training; Ft. Myers, FL where crew was formed. Received plane Thur She Blows near Manchester, NH. Flew to Newfoundland then to Scotland.
After missions, assigned to a training group in Savannah, GA on B-24s; brief B-29 training before retiring. Discharged July 24, 1945 as tech sergeant. Received Purple Heart with first Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross with first Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, and Distinguished Unit Badge. Lead Crew Certificate of Commendation. He and wife Lou have five sons and two daughters. Member of 2nd Air Division Association, VFW, and Optimist Association.
