The man.
Allen completed B-24 transition training at Liberal, KS, combat crew training at Colorado Springs, CO, and Mountain Home, ID before being assigned to the 93rd Bomb Group in July 1944. After eight missions he became a lead pilot and finished 30 missions in April 1945.
After returning to the U.S. he was assigned to Ferry Command at Long Beach, CA. Beginning in September 1946 he served four years in Flight Service at McChord AFB, WA. During the Korean War he served with the 1503rd ATW in Tokyo, then with the 463rd Troop Carrier Wing in Memphis, TN. He was released from active duty in August 1953 as major and squadron commander. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Korea, ETO with four stars, and other wartime medals.

Edgar J. Allen was born February 28, 1922 on a farm in Cloud County, KS. He entered the USAAC on February 3, 1943 as an Aviation Cadet and graduated as a pilot on December 5, 1943.
Allen married Thelma Moody in September 1948. Thelma was from London and her family emigrated to America in January 1948. They had three children and six grandchildren.
