2nd Lt. David Lipton served as navigator on the Ploesti mission of 1 August 1943. He was killed in action during or as a result of the crash landing near Ploesti. His serial number is recorded as O-670144, though the source document partially obscures the entry.
Bombardier Norman C. Adams, the surviving crew member who filed the E&E report, confirmed that Lipton did not survive the mission. Lipton was among the crew members who perished when the aircraft was brought down by anti-aircraft fire over Ploesti.
