The man.
Flew to ETO with the Gerhardt Provisional Group; assigned to 328th Bomb Sqdn., 93rd Bomb Group at Hardwick, England in June 1943. Made two detached service trips to North Africa, flying combat missions from Benghazi, Libya and Tunis. Transferred to 814th Bomb Sqdn., 482nd Bomb Group (Pathfinders); trained on British "Stinky" Radar and H2X "Mickey" Radar. Flew combat missions with Hinchman crew leading Groups of the 2nd Air Division until March 22, 1944; then served as radar navigator instructor until August 1944.

Born Nov. 7, 1920 in Detroit, MI. Joined USAAC March 23, 1942. Graduated from navigator training at Honda Field, TX; commissioned second lieutenant Jan. 28, 1943. Trained as B-24 navigator; crew training at Lincoln Field, NE (May 1943).
Discharged December 1945. Returned to University of Detroit. Recalled to active duty July 1948; trained as meteorologist. Korean War: flew 50 missions in a B-26 from Kimpo AAF plus three B-29 weather recon missions. Received Distinguished Flying Cross, six Air Medals, two Presidential Unit Citations. Retired as lieutenant colonel, December 1964. Married Dolores June Twamley on Feb. 9, 1943; one son, Jeffrey.
