The man.
Clarence W. Barton's crew ferried a B-24 to Ireland in August 1944 and was assigned to the 93rd Bomb Group, 328th Squadron at Hardwick, England. He completed 35 missions in March 1945.
He received the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross. He was subsequently assigned to the OSS as a staff pilot, stationed in London and Paris, and returned to the USA in December 1945, discharged as a captain.

Clarence W. Barton was born November 10, 1922 in Richmond, VA. He grew up in Huntington, WV and enlisted in the AAC in June 1942. He was called to active duty as AC in January 1943 and completed primary training in Tulsa, OK, receiving his commission as a second lieutenant pilot in February 1944.
After returning to the USA in December 1945 and being discharged as a captain, Barton met and married his wife Betty Roberts — whom he had met on a blind date during primary training in Tulsa — in January 1946. He attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a BSME in May 1949. They had two children. He retired from Dresser Engineering Co. as VP of engineering in July 1982 and lived in Tulsa. The eight surviving members of his nine-man crew held reunions in 1989, 1991, and 1992.
