Bernard A. Higgins.

Sgt. Bernard A. Higgins served as ball turret gunner on the August 1, 1943 Ploesti mission with the 93rd Bomb Group, 330th Bomb Squadron.

Higgins was wounded by flak during the mission and was in the bomb bay area at the time of the crash landing. Despite surviving the flak wounds, he was not seen alive after the plane went down. Co-pilot Bassett noted in EE-1616 that Higgins was in trail day when crash and believed him dead in the crash. Lt. Beaumont also listed him among those believed dead, a conclusion corroborated by Romanian witnesses who reported that all unaccounted-for crew members had perished. Higgins is listed as killed in action.
