B-24H serial 42-95153, assigned to the 330th Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Group, was shot down by anti-aircraft fire on 13 June 1944 during a bombing mission over northwest France. The aircraft crashed near Caudan, approximately 6 miles north of Lorient. MACR 5912.

Six crew members bailed out. All six were shot at by German forces while descending; two were killed during their parachute descent. Of the three who survived the descent alongside tail gunner S/Sgt John R. Rudy, all three were captured and became prisoners of war. Rudy was the only member of the aircraft to successfully evade capture. Three planes from the squadron were lost on this mission.

Of the full crew, 7 were killed and 2 bailed out and became prisoners of war, with Rudy the sole evader. The crew was piloted by 1st Lt. Albert B. Cool.
