On the return trip after bombing, the aircraft was attacked by German Me-109 fighters at approximately 11:00 AM. Damage caused loss of airspeed and the plane dropped out of formation. Navigator Lt. Sills charted a course to Sweden (neutral country). Aircraft landed in a field outside Örebro, Sweden. This was War Baby's 12th mission.
