Carroll F. Ruby
Carol Ruby served as waist gunner and arrived with the crew at Station 104 in late August 1944, though his time with them was brief. Shortly after arrival, he was detached from the crew and shipped to Italy — a reassignment Hughes noted without elaboration, the kind of administrative decision that quietly reshapes a crew with no ceremony attached.
What makes Ruby's story harder to close neatly is a photograph. He appears in the crew photo taken March 24, 1945 — standing in the top row, far left — more than six months after he was reportedly sent to Italy, on the eve of the resupply mission to Wesel. How he came to be there, whether by coincidence, temporary reassignment, or some other circumstance, the record does not say.

The sorties below are those we have been able to document for this airman, drawn from flight logs, mission records, and archival sources. It is not necessarily a complete account of every mission flown; gaps may reflect missing documentation, transferred assignments, or records lost to time.
