Geronimo was the first aircraft scheduled to fly on December 12, 1942, as the 93rd tried again to mount a mission out of the mud-bound airfield at Tafaroui in North Africa. Taxiing toward the runway, her nose-wheel sank into knee-deep mud and collapsed, forcing cancellation of the day's operation. Geronimo never flew again; ground crews photographed her afterward, nose down, as salvage began.
