“El Lobo”

By April 1943, combat losses and aircraft laid up for repair had thinned the 330th Squadron so badly that El Lobo was, on one mission that month, the only aircraft the squadron could put into the air. On July 7, 1943, returning from a mission and circling to land at Terria, both Engines One and Two cut out from fuel exhaustion. The aircraft crashed on its approach, and hung-up bombs and unspent ammunition exploded on impact, killing four of the crew.
