Piloted by Charles Moore, this aircraft flew against Messina's harbor during the January 1943 raids, dropping on ferry installations alongside other Group Liberators; the January 30 return to Messina found long columns of smoke rising from naval storage and a struck vessel, with no fighter opposition encountered. The aircraft's luck did not hold: on February 15, 1943, after delivering its bombs near Naples, it was shot down, the North African campaign's last combat loss for the Group. The entire crew, including Moore, was killed.
