B-24D-100-CO serial number 42-40807 served with the 328th Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Group (call letter L). While assigned to the 93rd, it took part in and survived Operation Tidal Wave, the low-level raid on the Ploesti oil refineries in Romania, on 1 August 1943.
The aircraft was later transferred to the 567th Bomb Squadron, 389th Bomb Group (call letter U). It was lost over Germany on 24 February 1944. Pilot: John E. Gold. MACR 2940.
