Warren H. Long.

S/Sgt. Warren H. Long (ASN 15329104) served as top turret gunner and engineer aboard B-24 42-7614 'Buckeye' (recorded as 42-7519 in the E&E reports), 328th Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Group. He was declared missing in action on 7 January 1944 following the loss of the aircraft over France during the Ludwigshafen mission. The E&E cover page lists his rank as S/Sgt, though the interviewer's notes record him as T/Sgt.

Long was hit on the right leg by flak before the bail-out. Co-pilot Miller reported that he was believed to have been slightly wounded and knocked unconscious during the engagement; Fruth's interrogation notes, however, record that Long was 'alive and unhurt when he jumped.'

Accounts of Long's fate conflict. Hearsay in the evaders' reports held that he had been shot by German ground troops after landing, and E&E No. 484 listed him as MIA. The PWIB record in E&E No. 693 and later compiled records, however, list him as wounded and taken prisoner of war. His fate has not been conclusively resolved.
