§ The Civilian Years
Before the War

Born Jan. 24, 1917 in Erath County, TX. After high school and two years junior college, entered service with a National Guard unit in November 1940. Transferred to Air Force in February 1942. Attended several technical schools; assigned to a flying crew as flight engineer on a B-24 at Clovis, NM in 1943. Went overseas February 1944 from Mitchell Field, NY via Florida, Puerto Rico, South America, and Africa.

After the War

Returned to States Sept. 5, 1944; assigned to Davis-Monthan Field, Tucson, AZ for B-29 training. Discharged Aug. 3, 1945; returned to Stephenville, TX and engaged in electrical work. Received Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, three European Campaign Stars. Married Feb. 17, 1944; three children, three grandchildren.
