The Man Behind the Name
2nd Lt. Michael A. Pietruccioli served as navigator aboard B-24J 42-110081 on the 19 June 1944 mission to Politz, Germany. He was found dead in the aircraft wreckage by German forces.
Pilot Lt. Brown reported that the bloody parachutes of both the co-pilot and navigator were hauled with him to Brussels following his capture, suggesting they may have attempted to bail out but perished in the process. His status is recorded as KIA on the MACR. His next of kin was his father, Paul Pietruccioli, of East Rutherford, New Jersey.
