S/Sgt Marion G. Szars served as waist gunner on the Ploesti mission of 1 August 1943. He was killed in action during or as a result of the crash.
Adams reported that Szars did not survive the mission. Of the ten crew members, Szars was among four who died as a result of the Ploesti mission.
