The Man Behind the Name
Shipped overseas on Aquatania in January 1945. Assigned to 93rd Bomb Group, 409th Sqdn., Hardwick. Flew 18 missions with Lt. Ollie Marmon's crew on a series of war-weary B-24s including Gambling Lady. Most memorable missions were to Magdeburg and Berlin, Germany. Finally assigned to B-24H Liberator a/c #42095204, with nose art "Mug of British Beer" (named by crew chief "Jitters from Bitters").

Before and after.
Born June 18, 1925 in Baltimore, MD. Joined USAAC in September 1943 at Greensboro, NC. Radio Operator and Mechanic School at Sioux Falls, SD; Aerial Gunnery School at Yuma, AZ; crew training on B-24s at Westover Field, MA (1944).
After V-E Day, flew B-24H Liberator (#42095204) back to the States on May 21, 1945 via Iceland, Goose Bay, Labrador, and Bradley Field, CT with crew and 11 passengers. Went to Sioux Falls, SD for Pacific assignment; trained on B-29 Superfortress at Clovis, NM. Discharged December 1945 at Andrews Field as technical sergeant. Received Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. Attended University of Baltimore (BS in marketing); worked in construction management. Married Lorraine Stansbury in 1951; 10 children, 25 grandchildren.
