Assigned to the cadre of the 446th Bomb Group, 705th Sqdn. as co-pilot on a model crew. The group deployed to the ETO in October 1943 with him as pilot of that crew. Flew 30 missions, half with the 446th and half with a 93rd Pathfinder crew. Promoted to captain in 1944.

Before and after.
Born Aug. 6, 1921 in Apollo, PA. Entered USAAC March 9, 1942. Graduated from pilot training Feb. 16, 1943 (class 43-B, Turner Field). Started B-24 training at Davis-Monthan, Tucson, AZ.
Returned to the States October 1944. Entered B-29 training early 1945. Spent 22 years in the USAF; retired July 1964 as lieutenant colonel. Flew B-24, B-17, B-29, B-50, B-47, and support types including C-47, T-33, and L-20. Employed 20 years by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Welfare. B.A. Shippensburg University, August 1965; MGA, University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, June 1970. Awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses, four Air Medals, USAF Commendation Medal, and ETO Campaign with three Battle Stars. Rated command pilot and AOB (1953).
