Assigned to crew in Tonopah, NV; shipped over to England August 1944 on liner Ile de France; assigned to 448th Bomb Group, 715th Bomb Sqdn., Seething, Sept. 4, 1944.
Flew three missions with 448th Bomb Group, was transferred to 93rd Bomb Group, HQ for 20th Combat Wing, trained on G.H. 'Gee' system for navigation and bombing. Appointed lead navigator. Remainder of combat missions was leading the 20th Combat Wing Bomb Group. Received Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, ETO Campaign Ribbons and citations.

Born in Walker County, AL, April 26, 1916. Shortly thereafter moved to Illinois, attended school in Chicago and classes at Northwestern University. Enlisted in AAC at Chicago May 2, 1942. Was an aviation cadet, qualified as aerial gunner at Tyndall Field, FL. Graduated as navigator second lieutenant, Class 43-16 at Selman Field, Monroe, LA on Dec. 4, 1943.
Moved west in 1954. Retired from United States Postal Service as superintendent of mails. Traveled full time eight years in a recreational vehicle hunting, fishing, shell-fishing in U.S., Canada and Mexico. Married Marie Willie March 13, 1943; they have three children and four grandchildren.
