The Man Behind the Name
2nd Lt. Greenwood G. Gay served as co-pilot. His next of kin was his wife, Mrs. Lorraine R. Gay, of 1210 Dexter Street, Pensacola, Florida.
Gay was captured after bailing out on 25 February 1944. He was seriously injured, having been shot through the lungs, and was transferred to the hospital at Dahn by order of the garrison physician. His ASN was recorded as 0-748623.
While in the hospital at Dahn, Gay provided information to German authorities identifying the dead crewmember T/Sgt. Gerald Brown and confirming the fate of pilot Lt. McCartie. Gay was taken prisoner and transported to Dulag Luft.
