The Man Behind the Name
Sgt. George E. Sloan served as nose gunner aboard B-24J 42-73495 on the 8 April 1944 mission to Brunswick, Germany. He was killed in action when the aircraft was shot down over the Island of Schokland in the Ijsselmeer.
A Dutch casualty report records Sloan as killed in action and interred at the cemetery of Vollenhove, Overijssel, on 14 April 1944 (Grave No. 610). His next of kin was his father, Mr. George Sloan, of Pritchett, Colorado. His serial number appears as 37343040 on the MACR and as 39,343,040 in German records.
