T/Sgt. Frank C. Ferrel served on the 1 August 1943 Ploesti mission. His role is listed as engineer in the official casualty record, while Warner's E&E crew list records him as waist gunner. The source records present conflicting position information for Ferrel.

Warner's crew list records his fate as 'unknown.' With five crew members confirmed in the wreckage and three surviving the bail-out (Warner, Vest, Reed), Ferrel's status could not be determined definitively from the information available to Warner at the time of the report. His serial number 18075492 was confirmed by an ETO headquarters correction document dated 24 July 1944. His next of kin was listed as Mrs. Maureen J. Ferrel (wife), Lueders, Texas.

Ferrel was born 12 February 1912 to George Washington and Clara Jane (Cross) Ferrel, and married Julia Maurese Putnan on 3 June 1941 shortly before enlisting. A 1929 graduate of Sylvester High School and 1936 B.S. graduate of McMurry College, he was a schoolteacher, coach, and principal before the war. His remains, unidentified since the crash, were confirmed by the DPAA on 10 January 2023 through anthropological and mitochondrial DNA analysis, and he was reinterred with military honors at Newman Cemetery, Sylvester, Texas on 7 April 2023 -- 80 years after his death.
