The Ship
On 13 March 1944, this B-24J exploded in mid-air during formation assembly over England and crashed at Benacre. The crew of ten, piloted by 1Lt Alfred C. Chamberlain and part of the 409th Bomb Squadron, had been forming up for a mission against V-weapon sites in the Pas-de-Calais. Six men were killed and four bailed out safely.
