“Ambrose”
The Ship
Piloted by Packy Roche, so named for St. Ambrose College. Hit in the gas line by FW-190s during the 93rd's first Bizerte mission (mid-December 1942), losing all engines. Roche made a dead-stick landing at Bone, Algeria, where the aircraft broke its back landing in a gully. Three crewmen were killed.
